It has been in the 80’s here in SoCal. So when I It has been in the 80’s here in SoCal. So when I had a little down time from home remodeling I decided to whip myself up a low ABV sipper. My brother-in-law turned me on to this combo of @italicusrdb and @lagunitasbeer hoppy refresher. I had never heard about this no-ABV drink from Lagunitas but I’m totally into it now. I love mixing Italicus with a nice hoppy IPA this is just a slightly subdued version of that.

Italicus Highball
60 ml Italicus
1 dash @bittermens hopped grapefruit bitters
Top with Lagunitas hoppy refresher

Build in a Collins glass with ice. Add the first two ingredients and give a little stir. Top with the hoppy refresher. Garnish with a grapefruit peel.

It’s finally Christmas which means this year is It’s finally Christmas which means this year is almost over. Yay! It also means that it is once again time for #secretsanté. A #drinkstagram secret Santa event that was started by @servedbysoberon.

I’m still getting back into the shake and stir of cocktails and when Matthias contacted me about participating. I knew I had to take part and I’m so happy I did. This is an amazing community and it’s always great to give back in any possible way.

Merry Christmas @craftandcocktails! Ashley is a Bay area drink and food stylist, author, photographer, and an all-around great person. I’ve been following her feed for a while now and she makes some fantastic cocktails with gorgeous photography. Give her a follow and check out her book Celebrate Rosé.

During the winter there is nothing like a good amaro cocktail. I’ve been playing around with brandy and love how well it plays with rum. Copper and Kings have an amazing brandy that they age in used Peerless rye whiskey barrels. One of my favorite rums to mix with is Pusser’s because it is distilled in wooden pot stills that impart beautiful flavors and aromas. Now I needed to figure out what amaro to pair with it along w/ some coffee-infused Carpano and homemade nocino. For the garnish, I’m pretty sure I learned about bruleéd citrus from Ashely so I wanted to add one. I found out the orange tree in our backyard is a blood orange tree, so naturally, I covered a slice in sugar and torched it.

Christmas on the Boulevard
.75 oz @copperandkings brandy aged in @peerless rye whiskey barrels
.75 oz @pussersrum blue label
.75 oz homemade nocino aged in an ex whiskey barrel and sweetened with maple syrup
.25 oz @hausalpenz Braulio alpine amaro
1 oz @anticaformula_official infused with coffee

Combine everything in a mixing glass with ice and stir till well chilled. Strain into an old fashioned glass with a large ice cube. Garnish with a bruleéd orange slice and a sprig of rosemary.

Ashley, DM me and we can talk about getting some Nocino or a prepared cocktail for you if you don’t have all the ingredients. Happy Holidays!
Hey everybody! What a year. This is my first post Hey everybody! What a year. This is my first post since the start of the pandemic. Priorities shifted. We ended up buying a house at the start of it all which has been fun, difficult, exhilarating, and nice, to use a few random adjectives.

Cocktails went by the wayside with straight spirits filling the void. I’ve popped into @instagram here and there to see what’s going on. I was sad to miss out on some amazing #homebarawards challenges throughout the year. But now that I have found some of my bar tools and glasses I knew I had to submit a cocktail for this months bitter challenge. My coupe glasses are still in a box somewhere but luckily I found my @rec_etch Nic and Nora glasses.

A Bitter Good Morning
1 oz @copperandkings brandy aged in @kentuckypeerless rye whiskey barrels
1 oz @cardenalmendozabrandy brandy de Jerez
1 oz @crudebitters “Big Bear” coffee & cocoa bitters
.5 oz vanilla simple syrup
Orange peel

Combine everything in a mixing glass with ice. Stir till well chilled. Strain into a coupe or Nic and Nora glass. Express an orange peel over the glass and drop in the peel.

The great people over at @callistospirits sent me The great people over at @callistospirits sent me a bottle of their botanical rum. You heard that right, a botanical rum! It’s a dry, floral rum that is great on it’s own but works fantastically in cocktails.

I’ve spent some time playing around with it in classic cocktails and it holds up. Daiquiri, check. Tom Collins, check. Negroni, check.

After some experimentation I had the idea to do a riff on a Mai Tai. This is also my entry to this months @homebarawards challenge. Just in the nick of time, too. The drink must contain at least one ingredient that's been transformed or modified from its unadulterated state. With that, I lime-acidified blood orange juice and made a vanilla simple syrup for my riff.

Mai Calli Groni
2 oz @callistospirits
.75 oz lime-acidified blood orange juice
.5 oz @amaroangeleno
.25 oz @smallhandfoods orgeat
.25 oz @martini sweet vermouth
.25 oz homemade vanilla syrup

Combine everything in a shaker with four one inch ice cubes. Shake till tins start to get frosty. Dump entire contents into a double old fashioned glass. Garnish with an orange peel.

A floral marrying of a negroni and a mai tai perfect as a summer cocktail. I picture myself on a bright sandy beach with sky blue water lapping at my feet as I sip on this in my living room. 😆

Hi everybody! How’s it going? During this whole Hi everybody! How’s it going? During this whole pandemic, we have been going through a range of emotions. Each week brings something new.

This last week I was spent. From playing princesses, watching Octonauts, playing Sleeping Queens, making meals, and everything else that moms and Mr moms do every day raising our kids. I needed a break. That also meant a break from making cocktails.😮 I wanted all the goodness of a finely crafted cocktail but quick and easy. So I took some time out of one day and made a few bottled cocktails.

Whenever I start making bottled cocktails I think about dilution. Am I going to drink this cocktail with ice or not? With ice, less dilution. No ice, more dilution. I wanted these bottled cocktails to be ready to pour and drink, no ice. The most energy I want to expand is with the garnish. 😆

Ok so for a bottled cocktail I typically find myself diluting cocktails to between 20% to 28% water. For my first bottled cocktail, we have the classic Old Fashioned. For this, I went with a 25% dilution.

Bottled Old Fashioned makes 750 ml

188 ml Water
441 ml @evanwilliamsbourbon
55 ml @wildturkey rye
55 ml Rich Gomme Syrup
11 ml @florafarms Sorghum Bitters

I know, I know, these numbers are a bit exact. This is what I wrote down in my recipe book who knows when, but when I make it I just try to get it as close as I can. Whatever, it tastes great garnished with an orange peel. Just keep it in the fridge and pour yourself 90 ml or so, but be forewarned it is a dangerous thing to have at the ready. This Old Fashioned clocks in at around 28% ABV or 56 Proof.

Cheers!
